“Blueprints for Success”

Dear Grantees,

We have confirmed the date and location of this year’s Health Professional Opportunity Grants Conference. It will take place on November 2-4, 2011 at the L’Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington, DC.

The major theme of this year’s conference is “Blueprints for the Future.” We will be taking an in depth look at the components of successful HPOG and similar employment programs. Potential agenda topics may include:

•    Matching program design to community needs.
•    Creating community asset maps.
•    Finding and using labor market data.
•    Building relationships with employers.
•    Support services and program partnerships.
•    Linking education and training to portable and stackable credentials.

When you register, you will also have an opportunity to suggest agenda topics that you would like us to focus on. In addition, when you register we are asking Program Directors to submit a client success story from your program. The most inspiring stories will be voted on via a web survey, which we will send out to all confirmed conference participants on October 13. (For the sake of readability, we ask that you limit your client’s story to 250 words or less). OFA will provide the winning client with travel and hotel accommodations for themselves and a family member to DC in order to share their story as a presenter at our conference.

This will be a two and a half day meeting, from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm on days one and two (November 2nd and 3rd), and from 8:30 am – 1pm on day three (November 4th). All grantees will be expected to fully participate in the conference. In order to do so, plan to arrive in DC at any point on Tuesday November 1, and do not schedule a departing flight earlier then 4:00 pm on Friday November 4th. Do not travel the morning of the conference and arrive sleep deprived and/or jetlagged, or plan to leave the conference prematurely in order to catch a specific flight.

Each grantee should register and send three participants to the conference. The Program Director and the staff member responsible for collecting and entering evaluation data must attend. For the third participant, we suggest that you bring a key partner that works closely with your program. (Such as a TANF agency, Workforce Investment Board, Apprenticeship program, a key support service provider, an employer, trainer, etc), but you may also bring another staff member of your choice if you feel it is more appropriate. If there are overlapping roles, such as if your Program Director is also responsible for collecting and entering evaluation data, then you may bring another staff member or partner, or you may also choose to bring only two staff members. If you wish to bring four staff members, please email Denise Donnahoo (see below) of Performance Excellence Partners, the logistical contractor for the conference. She will place the fourth staff member’s name on a waiting list and notify them if slots become available (or not) prior to the cutoff date.
